Patna : Jyoti Singh, wife of Bhojpuri film star Pawan Singh, has formally declared her political intentions, stating she is prepared to contest in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Addressing supporters in Daudnagar on Monday, Jyoti said her move into politics is rooted in a desire for genuine public service and not just symbolism.
“Women often contest elections but remain just faces, while the work is carried out by others in their name. That must change,” she said, stressing the need for more active and empowered participation by women in politics.
Jyoti Singh did not confirm the specific assembly seat she will be contesting from but indicated it would likely be within the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency. She also remained tight-lipped about which party she would represent, stating only that talks are ongoing and she would stand with whichever party offers her a ticket.
Her political presence has grown in recent months, particularly during and after her husband Pawan Singh’s campaign as an independent candidate from Karakat in the 2024 general elections. Jyoti Singh played a visible role throughout his campaign and has since maintained a consistent presence in the region through public outreach and social work.
Singh recently met with Rajya Sabha MP and Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader Upendra Kushwaha, fuelling speculation about a possible alignment. However, when asked about the meeting, she declined to name any specific party, saying, “Since I have entered politics, such meetings will happen. But I won’t comment on any party for now.”
