Darbhanga /Patna : Darbhanga’s much-anticipated metro project is finally gaining momentum—and it may be hiding more than just faster commutes. A key proposal now on the table suggests that part of the metro line could go underground, raising curiosity about what’s driving the decision and how it might reshape the city.
In a recent meeting with officials from the Bihar State Road Development Corporation (BSRDC) and RITES Limited, District Magistrate Rajiv Roshan recommended that the stretch between Lalit Narayan Mithila University and Laheriyasarai be built below ground. The reason? Unmanageable congestion in the city’s high-traffic zones.
The first corridor of the Darbhanga Metro will span 12.7 km and include 12 stations—from Darbhanga Airport to Ramnagar ITI. But it’s the underground stretch that’s turning heads, with locals wondering how the city’s tight-knit infrastructure will accommodate such a dramatic development.
With surveys and planning still underway, there’s growing speculation around the challenges—and possibilities—of going subterranean in Darbhanga. Could this be a sign of even bigger changes ahead for one of Bihar’s fastest-growing cities.
