Bihar Shines in UPSC 2024: Five Make It to Final List, Three in Top 20

Three candidates from Bihar, including two from Jamui and one from Buxar, have secured spots in the top 20 of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024, as the final results were declared on Monday.

Patna: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the final results of the Civil Services Examination 2024, with 1009 candidates making it to the merit list. Among them, five candidates from Bihar have secured positions, including three from Jamui, and notably, three Bihari candidates have ranked in the top 20.

The list was released on UPSC’s official website, upsc.gov.in, on Monday. Shakti Dubey, a Biochemistry graduate from Allahabad University with Political Science and International Relations as his optional subject, has emerged as the All India Rank 1 holder.

Buxar’s Hemant Mishra Shines in Top 20

Among the top performers is Hemant Mishra from Kusrupa village in Buxar district, who has made Bihar proud with his stellar result. Hemant had earlier secured the 8th rank in UPPCS 2022, earning a posting as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

Son of Omprakash Mishra, an APO in the Education Department, and Narmata Devi, a private school teacher, Hemant completed his early education in Buxar, followed by intermediate studies at DAV Patna. A graduate of Jamia Millia Islamia, he completed his post-graduation at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and secured All India Rank 4 in the NET exam. He was also selected as an Associate Professor at Amethi University, though he opted not to join.

Sanskriti Trivedi’s Journey from Jamui Continues

Another name drawing attention is Sanskriti Trivedi from Bombay Colony, Jamui, who previously secured AIR 352 in the UPSC 2023 exam. A Political Science graduate from Gargi College, Delhi University, she studied independently from home, reportedly putting in 15–17 hours of study daily. In 2023, she had announced her intention to reappear for the exam, aiming for a better rank—a goal she has now fulfilled.

Sanskriti passed her Class 10 exams with a perfect 10 CGPA and scored 9.4 CGPA in Class 12 from Jawahar Vidya Mandir Shyamli, Ranchi. Her determination and self-study approach have made her an inspiration for many aspiring civil servants across Bihar.

A Rising Graph for Bihar

While last year saw 32 candidates from Bihar clearing the UPSC, with six in the top 100 and a best rank of 19, this year’s performance—particularly with three in the top 20—marks a significant leap forward for the state. Bihar has consistently produced standout performers, including Ishita Kishore, who was the All India topper in 2022.
