PATNA – The latest report from the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) reveals a staggering toll on lives due to road accidents in Bihar, with 8,898 fatalities recorded in 2022. Additionally, 7,068 individuals suffered injuries, primarily pedestrians and motorbike riders. The data underscores the lethal consequences of reckless driving and overspeeding, highlighting the need for enhanced road safety measures.

Most incidents occurred on national highways and perilous roads, with a significant number of victims being pedestrians and motorcyclists. The report indicates a disregard for traffic regulations and safety precautions among the majority of those involved.

In 2022, Bihar witnessed a total of 10,801 road accident cases, with overspeeding causing 4,868 fatalities and 3,200 deaths attributed to negligent driving. Patna, the capital city, reported the highest casualties due to overspeeding, claiming 69 lives and leaving 44 severely injured.

Despite awareness initiatives, road safety remains a critical concern, leading to disability and loss of life. The statistics reveal that Bihar’s roads, including major routes such as Atal Path, JP Ganga Path, and Nehru Path, continue to witness accidents, emphasizing the urgency of effective safety measures and enforcement.
