Patna : Patna is set to see a significant transformation along its iconic Ganga bank, with plans for a grand tourist destination that will elevate the city’s appeal and contribute to environmental sustainability. The project, under the name JP Ganga Path Samagra Udyan, will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 387.40 crore, with an ambitious target of completion in two years.
Spanning a total area of 49.7 hectares, the development will feature a comprehensive park, including a riverfront, ecological park, butterfly garden, food court, urban women’s market, walking paths, cycle tracks, and extensive parking facilities. The project aims to create an accessible, green space where residents and tourists can enjoy a harmonious blend of nature and urban life.
Eco-Friendly Design and Green Spaces
One of the central features of the project is the extensive green coverage. A total of one lakh trees will be planted across the area, contributing to Patna’s environmental balance and improving air quality. The plan stipulates that 90% of the park’s area will remain green and open, with the ecological park serving as a highlight of the development.
The ecological garden, covering eight hectares, will have a unique theme inspired by traditional astronomy, based on the 27 constellations. This innovative approach will engage visitors with both nature and cultural heritage. The butterfly garden will provide an interactive experience, particularly for children and nature enthusiasts, promoting awareness of local biodiversity.
Walkways, Cycling Paths, and Parking Facilities
For those keen to explore the area, a six-kilometer walking path will run alongside the Ganga, providing a safe and scenic route for pedestrians. The development also includes a designated cycle track, catering to eco-conscious visitors who prefer to navigate the area on two wheels.
In addition to the natural beauty, the park will feature robust infrastructure to accommodate visitors. It will include parking facilities for 4,000 four-wheelers and 13,000 two-wheelers, addressing the growing demand for accessible spaces in the capital.
Minister’s Vision for Patna’s Growth
State Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen highlighted that this project would not only enhance Patna’s tourism and cultural scene but also contribute significantly to the city’s sustainable development. “As per the vision of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, we are prioritizing the timely completion of this project. The department’s commitment is reflected in the swift action taken, with tenders being issued within just two months of the announcement,” Naveen said.
The Bihar State Path Nirman Nigam Limited has issued a notification inviting tenders for the first phase of the JP Ganga Path Samagra Udyan project. The project’s development will focus on a seven-kilometer stretch along the Ganga Path, from Digha to Gandhi Maidan, marking a new chapter in Patna’s urban landscape.
The tenders for this ambitious scheme will be open for submission from April 27 to May 26, with a selection process based on quality and efficiency. The Road Construction Minister emphasized that the project would be completed with a keen eye on both the quality of work and the adherence to deadlines.
