Rain Brings Much-Needed Relief from Scorching Heat in Bihar, Orange Alert Issued

Patna: In the midst of an intense heatwave, several districts across Bihar, including the capital Patna, received light showers on Sunday afternoon, offering much-needed respite to residents. The sudden change in weather saw dark clouds gathering, followed by rainfall accompanied by thunder, significantly cooling down the soaring temperatures.
The mercury in Patna recorded a dramatic drop of seven degrees Celsius, settling at 36.5°C, according to the Meteorological Department. Meanwhile, Dehri remained the hottest location in the state, clocking a maximum temperature of 41.8°C despite the weather changes.
In response to the shifting weather patterns, the Meteorological Center Patna has issued an orange alert for large parts of the state, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, rain, and hailstorms over the next three days. The advisory is linked to a low-pressure trough stretching from central Uttar Pradesh through central Bihar to northern Bangladesh, combined with a cyclonic circulation over central Assam.
Districts on High Alert
An orange alert has been issued for the northern districts including East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Madhepura, Saharsa, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, and Katihar.
These areas are expected to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds reaching speeds of 50-60 km/h, along with moderate to heavy rainfall.
A yellow alert has been declared for the remaining districts, including Patna, forecasting thunderstorms and rain accompanied by gusty winds. Residents have been advised to remain indoors and take necessary precautions during the forecasted weather events.
Rainfall Recorded Across the State
In the past 24 hours, different parts of Kishanganj district recorded varying amounts of rainfall — with 14.6 mm in Thakurganj and 5.5 mm in Kishanganj town itself.
Patna received 4.6 mm of rainfall, while Arwal witnessed 0.5 mm. A noticeable dip in the maximum temperature was observed in almost all districts, except for Arwal, where the heat persisted.
The brief but intense showers have brought temporary relief from the sweltering heat, but the Meteorological Department continues to urge caution as unstable weather conditions persist across Bihar.
