Car Driver Arrested for Mowing Down Nine People in Patna, Released on Bail

Patna: A car driver was arrested after he hit nine people with his vehicle on Nehru Path in Patna, spanning the stretch between Rajvanshi Nagar, High Court, Income Tax Golambar, and the Planetarium. The incident, which caused panic in the area, occurred after the vehicle reportedly collided with another car.
Police said a case has been registered against the driver under multiple sections, including negligent driving. He was produced before the court on Monday, where he was granted bail. Authorities confirmed that the accused has no prior criminal record.
The driver, who has completed his BBA and whose father is a businessman, told police during interrogation that the chain of events began when his car accidentally hit another vehicle. Alarmed by the growing crowd chasing him and raising an uproar, he panicked and accelerated in an attempt to flee, which ultimately led to the accident.
The situation took a dramatic turn near the Planetarium, where local residents intercepted the vehicle. In the chaos that followed, the mob reportedly beat the driver, and someone allegedly snatched his chain and purse. However, no formal complaint has been lodged in connection with the mob assault or the theft.
Police are continuing their investigation into both the accident and the events that followed.
