Patna : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been granted four-day custody of Sanjeev Mukhiya, the alleged mastermind behind last year’s NEET examination paper leak, after a special court in Patna approved the remand on Thursday.
Mukhiya, who had been on the run for 11 months, was arrested from Patna last month. His apprehension marks a significant development in the ongoing probe into the leak of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper — a high-stakes exam for admission to medical colleges across India.
The CBI had sought a seven-day remand to further its investigation but was granted four days by the court. The agency is expected to intensify its interrogation over the weekend, aiming to uncover further details surrounding the organised malpractice.
Before the CBI took over the case, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police had interrogated Mukhiya, during which several key disclosures were reportedly made. The EOU and CBI are both pursuing leads into what appears to be a widespread and coordinated paper-leak network.
The case was brought before the CBI special court in Patna on Monday, following the agency’s request for custodial interrogation. A production warrant was issued to the superintendent of Beur Jail, where Mukhiya is currently lodged, and he was presented in court on Tuesday. Thursday’s hearing concluded with the court granting CBI four days of custodial access.
