Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday made a fiery appeal for regime change in the state, accusing the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government of institutionalised corruption and betrayal of backward communities.
Addressing a packed gathering at the Ati Pichhda Jagao (Awaken the Most Backward) rally at Miller High School ground in Patna, Tejashwi called on voters to form a Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) government in the upcoming assembly elections. “Give us a chance, and the corrupt will be sent to jail,” he declared. “Lewd people will be treated, and the lawbreakers will not be spared.”
The Leader of Opposition sharpened his attack on both the Janata Dal (United) and its alliance partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the latter of “hijacking” Nitish Kumar and pushing Bihar into a cycle of unemployment, migration, and economic stagnation. “Corruption is at its peak. From the police station to the block office, bribes are demanded,” Tejashwi alleged, adding that the state’s liquor ban has become a tool to target Dalits and backward communities.
He likened the current government to a “15-year-old vehicle” that no longer deserves to be on the road. “If outdated vehicles are banned, then why not outdated governments?” he said, invoking applause from the crowd.
Tejashwi, who is positioning himself as the face of a progressive alternative, promised dignity, employment, and security for the most marginalised. “The most poverty, the most unemployment, the most migration—all lie in the very backward communities. It’s time for a new government that delivers rapidly for them.”
Promising to be personally accountable for job creation and law enforcement, he appealed to voters: “A new brand of seed must be sown in the field. Make Tejashwi responsible. Form a new government.”
