Patna: In a major crackdown on criminal activity ahead of the elections, the Patna rural police recovered two foreign-made pistols and ammunition from a black Thar SUV near Narayanpur Kahari Tola in Vikram police station area. The SUV was found abandoned without a number plate.

According to Paliganj DSP-2 Umeshwar Kumar Chaudhary, police received a tip-off late Tuesday night about a possible criminal conspiracy being planned in the region. Acting swiftly, the Vikram police formed a special team and launched a raid.

Upon spotting the police, the suspects, who were in the Thar, tried to flee the scene. In the process, their vehicle rammed into a roadside hut, injuring a person who was asleep inside. The injured man was admitted to a hospital. The Thar overturned in the accident, and the suspects managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

During the search of the overturned vehicle, police recovered two loaded American pistols, 10 live cartridges, one misfired shell, two magazines, and two mobile phones — one Apple and one Vivo. The SUV has been seized and brought to the police station for forensic examination.

Police have launched a manhunt to identify and apprehend the suspects. “A case has been registered, and legal action is being initiated against the registered owner of the Thar,” said an officer involved in the investigation.

The Bihar Police Headquarters has issued strict instructions to all local police units to intensify crime control operations in the run-up to the assembly elections.
