Principals of B.R.A. Bihar University Colleges Denounce Allegations, Consider Legal Action

Muzaffarpur: Principals of constituent colleges affiliated with B.R.A. Bihar University (BRABU) convened an emergency meeting on Friday at Ramdayalu Singh College to collectively respond to recent allegations made by Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Dinesh Prasad Singh and Member of Parliament (MP) Veena Devi. The lawmakers reportedly accused the principals of engaging in the practice of offering monthly “protection money,” a claim the principals have strongly denied.

While the parliamentarians’ comments have not been independently verified, the college heads expressed concern that such statements, if left unaddressed, could undermine public trust in academic institutions. As per a statement issued by BRABU, the group unanimously adopted three formal resolutions condemning the remarks, calling for a public retraction, and signalling intent to initiate legal proceedings for defamation.

“The allegations are not only unfounded but deeply damaging to the dignity of educators,” said one principal, speaking on behalf of the gathering. Many attendees also underscored the academic progress made under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Chandra Rai and argued that the accusations come at a time when the university is seeing improvements in research and governance.

The principals resolved to inform the Governor of Bihar — who serves as Chancellor of the state’s universities — about the developments and the collective concern regarding damage to institutional reputation.

They also expressed willingness to explore legal remedies, pending consultation with the university’s vice-chancellor. The proposal to consider a defamation suit was supported unanimously.

The meeting, presided over by Dr. Anita Singh, Principal of Ramdayalu Singh College, concluded with a vote of thanks from the principal of MDDM College. Around 20 principals attended, including Prof. Amita Sharma, Prof. Nalin Bilochan, Prof. Avay Kumar Singh, Prof. Vyas Nandan Shastri and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Singh.

Despite repeated attempts, neither MLC Singh nor MP Devi were available for comment at the time of publishing.
