Patna: In response to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Bihar Police and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have launched joint operations to secure the 600-km stretch of the India-Nepal border — a move being implemented for the first time. The deployment comes amid intelligence inputs warning of possible infiltration by ISI-backed terror outfits through the porous international boundary.
From Valmiki Nagar in West Champaran to Kishanganj, a series of police check posts have been established, with rigorous screening of vehicles and individuals between 5 AM and 11 PM. CCTV surveillance, scanner machines, and dog squads are being deployed for real-time monitoring. The Nepal Armed Police Force, too, has stepped up vigilance, carrying out 312 patrols and activating 1,844 checkpoints in the last 48 hours.
Border Vigil and Internal Security Tightened Across Bihar
Security has been intensified across the state, including Patna and Darbhanga airports and all railway stations. Religious and historical sites are under enhanced surveillance. The Bihar Health Department has issued a medical alert, cancelling all leaves for doctors and putting government hospitals on standby with emergency beds, medicines, oxygen, and ambulance services ready.
In anticipation of potential aerial threats, the Civil Defence Department has begun preparing for airstrike scenarios. Additional civil defence volunteers will be inducted via a new digital portal to bolster emergency response. “We are increasing the number of civil defence volunteers for public safety. Youth can soon register online,” said Disaster Management Additional Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit.
Nitish Kumar to Review Border Readiness in Purnia
Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena chaired a high-level meeting on Friday, instructing officials to monitor social media and prison activities closely. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is scheduled to hold a review meeting on Saturday in Purnia with DMs and SPs from border districts to assess the state’s law and order situation and emergency preparedness.
Govt Appeals for Calm; Schools, Markets to Remain Open
Despite the heightened alert, the state government has appealed to the public not to panic. Schools, offices, and markets will remain open, and there is no need to hoard food or essential items, officials clarified.
Nepal Vows Not to Allow Anti-India Activities
In a diplomatic assurance, Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli told Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava that Nepal’s land will not be allowed to be used for any activities against India. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Kathmandu, came after concerns were raised about the possibility of cross-border terrorist activity amid rising Indo-Pak tensions.
