Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation will conduct a night-time mock drill at Ashok Nagar Zero Point Sump House on Tuesday to assess the city’s pre-monsoon drainage readiness. The exercise, scheduled from 11pm to 2am, aims to evaluate the functioning of sump houses, the effectiveness of cleaning systems, and the real-time responsiveness of sanitation workers.
According to officials, the drill will involve inspections of sump house inlets, outlets, gratings, connecting drains, manholes, and catchpits across all zones to ensure that they are free from blockages. The move comes after the completion of city-wide drain cleaning ahead of the monsoon.
Municipal Commissioner and BUIDCo Managing Director recently chaired an inter-departmental meeting to address drainage challenges, assess the quality of cleaning, and review technical aspects of the system. Regular field inspections have been taking place to ensure execution on the ground, officials said.
In preparation for the monsoon, the corporation’s Quick Response Team (QRT), which is activated during heavy rains, will be deployed from June 15. The team will work round-the-clock to manage waterlogging and coordinate emergency drainage operations.
Additionally, all zones have been directed to ensure that pumps are fully operational, with operators and pipes on standby to manage drainage in low-lying areas.
During the drill, the presence and adherence to standards by sanitation workers from both BUIDCo and Patna Municipal Corporation will also be reviewed. Senior officials, including executive officers, engineers, city managers, and zonal staff, will oversee the exercise to ensure coordination across departments.
