Patna: The mortal remains of Army soldier Ram Babu Singh, martyred in the recent ‘Operation Sindoor’ against Pakistan, arrived at Patna airport on Tuesday, where tributes were paid by political leaders, military officials, and members of the public.
Ram Babu, a native of Vasilpur village in Siwan district, had served in the Indian Army since 2017. He was killed in action on May 12, while stationed at the Jammu-Kashmir border during active combat duties. The 27-year-old soldier had only recently returned to duty on April 10, after spending time at home on leave.
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav was among those present at the airport to pay homage. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is also expected to offer his respects, and the Bihar government has announced an ex gratia compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the martyr’s family.
The grief-stricken family said Ram Babu had married just five months ago in a ceremony held in Dhanbad in December 2024. After celebrating Holi with his family, he returned to duty, unaware it would be his final posting.
Ram Babu served as an operator in the Indian Army. His father, the late Ram Vichar Singh, was a former deputy chief of Hariharpur Panchayat. Villagers from Siwan expressed deep sorrow over the loss but also immense pride in his sacrifice for the nation.
