Bodhgaya: In a momentous occasion set against the sacred backdrop of Bodhgaya, His Holiness the Dalai Lama is poised to inaugurate the inaugural International Sangha Forum on Wednesday morning.
The three-day event is expected to draw Sangharajas, Abbots, and leaders of Buddhist institutions from a diverse array of 42 countries, including but not limited to India, Thailand, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Russia, and Mongolia.
Under the theme ‘Bridging Traditions, Embracing Modernity: A Dialogue on the Buddha’s Teaching in Today’s World’, the conference seeks to foster dialogue and collaboration among practitioners of Pali, Sanskrit, and Tibetan Buddhist traditions. The aim is to underscore the shared benefits of study and practice across these traditions while acknowledging and celebrating their unique strengths.
The primary focus of the forum is to explore the significance of being a Buddhist in the 21st century, delving into the relevance of ancient teachings in the contemporary world.
On the morning of December 23, His Holiness will lead a World Peace Prayer Session at the Mahabodhi Stupa in Bodhgaya, bringing together delegates from the International Sangha Forum 2023 and members of the public. This session is set to be the culmination of the three-day event, promoting global harmony and understanding.
The choice of Bodhgaya, the revered site where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment, adds a profound layer of significance to this historic gathering. The location symbolizes the unity and diversity inherent in Buddhist traditions, making it a fitting venue for the International Sangha Forum.
