Patna: The searing heatwave conditions in Bihar showed signs of easing on Friday, with no heatwave declared anywhere in the state, according to the Patna Meteorological Centre. However, intense heat persisted in some areas, with six locations recording temperatures above 40°C — a notable drop from 14 such places on Thursday.
Dehri remained the hottest place in the state, with the mercury climbing to 43.4°C, followed by Gaya at 42.7°C and Aurangabad at 42°C. Other areas that continued to sizzle included Sasaram (41.4°C), Buxar (40.9°C) and Arwal (40.8°C).
Elsewhere, temperatures hovered in the high thirties, with Patna recording 38.0°C, Chhapra 39.5°C, and Gopalganj 38.9°C, bringing some temporary relief from the extreme heat conditions earlier in the week.
While the heatwave abated on Friday, the Met office has issued a yellow warning for Saturday, forecasting hot and humid conditions in the southwest parts of the state and Patna district. Encouragingly, no heatwave warning has been issued for Sunday, with the maximum temperature expected to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two to three days, the forecast said.
In a much-needed respite from the oppressive weather, the Patna Meteorological Centre has also issued warnings for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the next five days in different parts of the state. Officials advised residents to stay alert to sudden weather changes and take precautions during storms.
