Patna: Patna witnessed two separate shooting incidents in less than 12 hours, sparking fresh concerns over the city’s law and order situation. One businessman was killed on Sunday night, while another was critically injured in a targeted attack early Monday morning.
In the first incident, Mantu Rai, a bottled water distributor, was ambushed near Dulli in the Khajekala police station area. Rai was shot multiple times late on Sunday night. He was rushed to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) but was declared dead on arrival. Police have recovered four cartridges from the crime scene and are investigating possible motives, though the reason behind the killing remains unclear.
In the second case, which took place in the Beur area of Patna early Monday morning, six assailants targeted Sanjay Kumar, the owner of a local banquet hall. The attack occurred while Kumar was on his routine morning walk. The criminals shot him three times before fleeing the scene. Kumar was admitted to a private hospital in critical condition.
Both incidents have sent shockwaves through the city’s business community and local residents. Police have launched separate investigations into the two shootings and are exploring all possible angles, including business rivalries and personal enmity.
