Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called for the speedy completion of the road construction and underground drainage project along Saidpur Nala, highlighting its potential to ease traffic congestion in Patna.
During an inspection on Wednesday, CM Nitish reviewed the progress of the Rs 259.81 crore project, which includes a 5.61-kilometre underground drain and a four-lane road extending to the hill near Saidpur Nala. The Chief Minister was accompanied by senior officials, including Urban Development Secretary Abhay Kumar Singh and Patna Municipal Commissioner Animesh Parasar.
CM Nitish visited key points of the project, including the Sheetla Mandir flyover area, the drainage pumping plant, and the Saidpur Nala itself. He reiterated the importance of expediting the project, calling it “very good” and expressing confidence that it would significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks in densely populated areas like Saidpur, Rajendra Nagar, Musallahpur Haat, Gaighat, and the nearby hill region. “This will not only decongest traffic but also provide an alternative route to the New Patna Bypass,” he said.
The project, being executed by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO), also manages the outflow of water from nine drainage pumping stations and one sewerage treatment plant through Saidpur Nala.
The Chief Minister emphasised that once completed, the improved drainage system and new road will enhance both the city’s appearance and the quality of life for its residents.
Among those present were Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar, Secretary to the CM Kumar Ravi, Patna District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, and other key officials.
