Patna: In a decisive move to clamp down on crime-generated wealth in Bihar, Director General of Police (DGP) S.K. Singhal has summoned all Range Inspectors General (IGs) and Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) to Patna for a high-level review meeting on May 27. The meeting, to be held at Police Headquarters, will focus on the identification and confiscation of properties amassed illegally by criminals.
Senior police officers will be required to present detailed reports on the number of offenders identified for possessing disproportionate assets, the value of such assets, and the current status of any confiscation or legal proceedings. According to sources, the DGP will also seek accountability on prior directives and assess the progress of action plans already issued to dismantle crime syndicates’ economic backbones.
Key concerns of the review include data from May 1–20 on arrests made in connection with serious criminal incidents across Bihar’s districts. The DGP will also examine cases where accused individuals remain absconding. Updates on cases related to murder, armed robbery, dacoity, Arms Act violations, and POCSO will be reviewed in detail.
Officers will face specific questioning on:
- Arrests and pending cases linked to law and order disruptions and communal unrest
- Police response to attacks on law enforcement personnel
- The number of celebratory firing incidents and follow-up actions
- Delays in submitting scientifically backed case files regarding police attacks
The DGP has reiterated earlier instructions to crack down on individuals who attack police officers, stating such incidents damage public confidence in the police force.
The push comes as part of a broader strategy to ensure criminals do not retain wealth acquired through unlawful means. A notable example was in August last year when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) confiscated assets worth Rs 2.08 crore belonging to Akhilesh Yadav, Jayanandan Yadav, and Dinesh Yadav of Gopalpur’s Teentanga village—infamous for their involvement in murder, robbery, and criminal conspiracy.
