Sitamarhi: The upcoming Ram Janaki Marg and the proposed six-lane Greenfield Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway are expected to transform Sitamarhi and surrounding regions into a hub of religious tourism and economic growth. BJP media in-charge Raman Kumar Srivastava shared this information, citing Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary’s recent remarks in Patna.
Srivastava expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for these major infrastructure initiatives, calling them a “gift from the central government” that will significantly enhance Bihar’s road connectivity, especially in north Bihar districts.
Ram Janaki Marg to Strengthen Religious Tourism
The Ram Janaki Marg, a proposed four-lane road with a width of 20 metres, will run from Mehrauna Ghat in Uttar Pradesh to Bhittha Mod in Sitamarhi, passing through key towns such as Siwan, Chhapra, Mashrak, Hamidpur (Gopalganj), Raja Patti, Dumrasan, and Chakia. It will ultimately connect to Sursand on the Indo-Nepal border, providing direct access to Janakpur, the birthplace of Goddess Sita.
“This project will ease travel for devotees between Ayodhya and Janakpur, linking two vital religious sites—Ram Janmabhoomi and Janaki Janmabhoomi. Tourism will flourish, and the local economy will benefit,” Srivastava said.
The road is also expected to facilitate improved movement for trade and industry along the route, which passes through both agricultural and emerging industrial regions.
Expressway to Unify North Bihar with Eastern India
The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Greenfield Expressway, a 568-kilometre, six-lane express corridor, will cover 417 km in Bihar alone. The expressway will connect a chain of important cities and towns—Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Bettiah, Motihari, Piprakothi, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Bagdogra and Siliguri.
“The expressway will serve as a lifeline for regional trade and agriculture and improve access to the northeast,” Srivastava added.
Both infrastructure projects are seen as key enablers for Bihar’s socio-economic development, with a focus on improving travel time, boosting tourism, facilitating inter-state trade, and uplifting rural and semi-urban economies.
