Bettiah: In a significant move ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, the state government has sanctioned the construction of a 2.36 km bypass road in Bettiah, aiming to provide long-awaited relief from persistent traffic congestion. The project, estimated at ₹19.32 crore, has received administrative approval and will be implemented under the state’s flagship scheme Saat Nischay-2 Sulabh Samparkta.
Bypass to Ease City Traffic
The proposed bypass will be built between the Bettiah bus stand and Bettiah-Govindganj Path (State Highway 54). According to Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Samrat Chaudhary, the government is actively addressing public concerns and remains committed to improving road infrastructure across the state.
“The people of Bettiah have been suffering due to chronic traffic jams. This bypass will play a vital role in ensuring smoother vehicular movement and reducing travel time,” Chaudhary said.
Project Details
Under the sanctioned plan:
- A 1.69 km long main road will be constructed.
- Additionally, a 0.67 km police line link road will be developed.
- The entire 2.36 km stretch is aimed at decongesting the central parts of Bettiah.
The project cost of ₹19.32 crore will be fully funded by the state government under its infrastructure development initiative.
Long-Pending Demand Addressed
Traffic congestion has been a major issue in Bettiah city for years, especially along key routes such as the SH-54. With no alternative routes available, daily commuters and transporters have faced regular delays and bottlenecks.
The new bypass is expected to:
- Divert through-traffic away from congested city areas.
- Improve access to Govindganj and other nearby regions.
- Boost local commerce by enhancing connectivity.
Pre-Poll Push for Infrastructure
This latest announcement is part of a series of pre-election infrastructure measures rolled out by the Bihar government. Officials say several similar projects are in the pipeline to address civic concerns and upgrade urban infrastructure before the polls.
