Patna: The weather across Bihar, including the capital Patna, witnessed a significant shift on Tuesday as humid heat and thunderstorms swept through several regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for parts of the state, warning residents of thunderstorm activity in the coming days.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Patna, easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal are contributing to high humidity and partly cloudy skies. The humid conditions have made the weather uncomfortable, particularly in central and southern Bihar. A yellow alert has been issued for eastern districts, including Kishanganj, Araria, Madhepura, Saharsa, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Jamui, Katihar, and Purnia, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
“Partly cloudy skies and easterly winds are sustaining the humid heat. Thunderstorms are likely in isolated places in the next 24 hours,” an official from the IMD Patna said.
Rainfall Recorded in Multiple Districts
Light to moderate rainfall was reported in several areas during the past 24 hours. Katihar recorded the highest rainfall at 105 mm, followed by Rajgir (87 mm), Kadwa in Katihar (78.6 mm), and Silav in Nalanda (72.6 mm). Other notable rainfall amounts included 50.8 mm in Tekari (Gaya), 38.2 mm in Rupouli (Purnia), 31.2 mm in Sasaram, 27 mm in Purnia, 21.8 mm in Navinagar (Aurangabad), 19.6 mm in Sangrampur (Munger), and 19.4 mm in Warsaliganj (Nawada).
Temperature Trends and Heat Conditions
Despite the rain, daytime temperatures remained high in many parts of the state. Gopalganj recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 39.0°C, while Patna logged 34.7°C, with a minimum temperature of 27.6°C. In other cities, Gaya recorded 34.9°C, Bhagalpur 33.8°C, and Muzaffarpur 33.6°C. The combination of heat and high humidity made conditions uncomfortable for residents, especially in Patna and its surrounding areas.
Forecast: More Heat and Thunderstorms Ahead
The IMD has forecast a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2–4°C over the next five days across Bihar. Alongside the rising heat, thunderstorm warnings remain in effect, particularly for eastern and northern regions.
