Patna: The ongoing divorce proceedings between Tej Pratap Yadav and Aishwarya Rai took a new turn as both parties appeared in the Patna Civil Court on Thursday. The Principal Judge of the Family Court has scheduled the next hearing for June 21, following a request from Aishwarya’s legal team for a four-week extension, which was contested by Tej Pratap’s lawyer, Jagannath Singh.
This marks the first court appearance after a social media post allegedly from Tej Pratap’s account claimed he had been in a relationship with Anushka Yadav for 12 years. The post, which went viral along with photos and videos of the two, sparked widespread speculation and controversy. Tej Pratap later denied making the post, stating his account had been hacked.
The revelations prompted a strong reaction from Aishwarya, who publicly questioned the Lalu Prasad family’s commitment to social justice, asking, “If everyone knew about the affair, why was I married to him?” She alleged that she was physically assaulted by Rabri Devi in 2019, shortly before the divorce proceedings began.
In response to the controversy, Lalu Prasad expelled his elder son Tej Pratap from the Rashtriya Janata Dal for six years and also declared his expulsion from the family. Meanwhile, Anushka Yadav’s brother, Akash Yadav, has also appealed to Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav for justice, further intensifying the public rift.
Tej Pratap and Aishwarya married on May 12, 2018, but their relationship broke down within a year.
