Patna: Amidst the ongoing political and family drama within the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), expelled leader Tej Pratap Yadav has found an unexpected ally in party MP Sudhakar Singh. Singh publicly defended Tej Pratap in Motihari, stating that his marital situation is a “personal matter” and should be accepted by his father, Lalu Prasad.
Sudhakar Singh’s comments come just as RJD officially announced Tej Pratap’s expulsion from the party for six years. The formal letter of expulsion was made public on Sunday by RJD’s National Principal General Secretary Abdul Bari Siddiqui.
“Marriage is Not a Crime”
Addressing the controversy surrounding Tej Pratap’s relationship and photo with a woman named Anushka, Sudhakar Singh asserted, “This is Tej Pratap’s personal matter. Getting married is not a crime. Two-three marriages are considered valid in Hindu society.” He further invoked socialist thinker Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, stating, “We have also read in the books of socialist thinker Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia that such cases have received the approval of the society.”
On the question of Lalu forgiving his elder son, Singh was direct: “Lalu Prasad, as a father, should accept his son’s decision.”
Formal Expulsion Confirmed
Despite Singh’s supportive remarks, the RJD has moved forward with Tej Pratap’s expulsion. The letter issued by Abdul Bari Siddiqui, though formal, was notably concise. It contained a single line confirming his expulsion from the party’s primary membership for six years, comprising only 27 words.
This official declaration follows Lalu Yadav’s earlier social media announcement where he stated his decision to separate Tej Pratap from both the party and the family due to “disregarding moral values in personal life” and “irresponsible behavior.”
