Patna: A new double-decker bus service is set to be launched along JP Ganga Path—popularly known as Patna’s Marine Drive—offering tourists a unique opportunity to experience panoramic views of the Ganga under the open sky.
The Bihar Tourism Department has confirmed that the buses are ready for operation, pending final route clearance from the Transport Department. The service is expected to begin by the end of June.
Outfitted with GPS, Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, refrigerators, comfortable seating, and a live guide system, the bus promises a memorable ride. The upper deck will remain open-air, giving passengers unobstructed views of the riverbanks. Live commentary and music will further enhance the experience.
In its initial phase, the service will operate in the morning and evening, with estimated fares ranging between Rs 100 and Rs 150. Final pricing will be announced once route approvals are granted.
According to Ravi Shankar Upadhyay, Public Relations Officer of the Tourism Department, the initial route is expected to run from Digha Tourist Ghat to Kangan Ghat. A successful trial run has already been conducted, and authorities have confirmed that there are no overhead wire issues on the route that would affect passengers seated on the upper deck.
The route also holds cultural significance. Tourists, particularly Sikh pilgrims, will be able to visit sacred sites like Sri Harimandir Sahib and Handi Sahib. If the initiative receives a strong public response, the route could be extended to Didarganj or AIIMS Golambar.
Officials hope the double-decker service will significantly boost tourism in Patna, providing not just convenience and comfort, but also a renewed connection to the Ganga’s heritage.
