Patna: The Bihar government’s Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyami Yojna is driving a wave of economic empowerment among women by helping them establish and grow businesses across the state. Since its launch, 8,787 women have benefited from the initiative, receiving a total financial assistance of Rs 608.91 crore.
The scheme aims to encourage entrepreneurship among women, providing financial support, training, and business advisory services. Women entrepreneurs can receive up to Rs 10 lakh per project, with half of this amount up to Rs 5 lakh offered as an interest-free loan repayable over seven years. Additionally, up to Rs 5 lakh is granted as a non-repayable subsidy covering 50 percent of the total project cost.
Beyond funding, beneficiaries receive essential training to successfully manage their businesses, along with ongoing support from business advisors and assistance in marketing their products.
Applicants must be permanent residents of Bihar aged between 18 and 50 years. Notably, the scheme extends its benefits to members of the transgender community, reflecting an inclusive approach to economic empowerment.
Popular enterprises established under the scheme include readymade garment production, flour milling (including sattu and gram flour), and the manufacture of notebooks and copies. These businesses not only serve local markets but also generate employment opportunities in both rural and urban areas.
In addition to this scheme, 10,963 women have benefited from the Bihar Small Entrepreneur Scheme, while 226 have availed support under the Bihar Startup Policy, further contributing to women’s economic participation in the state.
