Shot Dead in Broad Daylight: Husband of Bihar Police Constable Killed at Sand Ghat

A man working at a sand site in Patna was shot dead on Thursday, raising fears of gang activity and extortion.

Patna: A man was shot and killed in broad daylight at a sand ghat in Ranisarai, under Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district, on Thursday. The victim was identified as Suraj Kumar, a resident of Madanpur village in Nalanda district. He had been working as a clerk at the sand ghat for the past two months. Suraj was shot in the chest while he was supervising the loading of sand near the office.

His colleagues rushed him to the nearby Community Health Centre in Bakhtiyarpur, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. An eyewitness, Kundan Kumar, who was operating a Poklane machine nearby, said he heard a loud sound like a tyre burst. When he went closer, he saw Suraj lying on the ground, bleeding heavily.

There are suspicions that this killing could be linked to an old dispute or an extortion demand. Local sources said that the sand ghat is often targeted by criminal gangs demanding money, especially because of the ongoing work for the Ganga Riverfront Project. This area has seen similar violence before, but workers are afraid to speak about it.

Suraj’s family is in shock. His wife is a constable in the Bihar Police. According to relatives, he had recently come home on leave and returned to work just a few days ago. His sudden death has left his entire village and family grieving. Police are now investigating the case from all angles.
