Bhagalpur: The long-awaited four-lane road connecting Bhagalpur to Hansdiha in neighbouring Jharkhand is moving closer to reality, with land acquisition in the Banka district entering an accelerated phase.
In the initial stage of the project, 40.072 hectares of land have been earmarked for acquisition along the stretch between Aliganj Bypass Thana and Dhakamod, covering kilometre markers 117 to 134. The process is being carried out under the supervision of the Land Acquisition Department, which has identified affected plots and submitted the requisite documentation.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has published a gazette notification, formally initiating the legal process of land acquisition. As per the notice, landowners whose properties fall within the proposed development corridor have been given 21 days to submit written objections to the local acquisition office.
According to official estimates, land from seven villages in Chandan and Katoria blocks will be acquired. The gazette lists 406 private landowners whose properties are marked for acquisition. While the majority of the land is privately owned, several parcels of government land, including a Kali temple, fallow land, and parts of residential structures, also fall within the proposed route.Once constructed, the four-lane highway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Bhagalpur and Hansdiha, facilitating smoother cross-border movement and spurring local economic growth. Authorities say the road will not only enhance connectivity but also boost trade and infrastructure development in the region.
