Patna: Bihar’s sugarcane farming is going through big changes. The state is now combining traditional farming with new technology to improve farmers’ income and boost the rural economy. A major step in this direction is the opening of nine ethanol factories by the year 2026. Along with this, new sugarcane seeds made through tissue culture will also be given to farmers to increase production.
The state government is also taking strong action to ensure timely payments to farmers. In a recent meeting, Sugarcane Industry Minister Krishnanandan Paswan said that sugar mills must pay farmers on time. So far, 99.8% of payments have been made. He also asked officials to speed up important schemes like the Chief Minister’s Sugarcane Development Scheme, Mechanisation Scheme, and the Bihar Jaggery Promotion Scheme.
Bihar is working on growing high-quality sugarcane seeds using tissue culture. These seeds will help farmers grow more sugarcane and earn better income. At the same time, traditional jaggery makers are also being supported with new tools and training. This will help improve the quality of jaggery and make it easier to sell.
The biggest change is in ethanol production. Bihar is becoming a leader in making ethanol from sugarcane, which is a cleaner fuel. With nine new ethanol factories planned, more jobs will be created and farmers will get new markets for their produce. The “sweet revolution” in Bihar is a major step toward a better future for farmers and the environment.
