Patna: The Bihar government has started full-scale preparations for the upcoming 2025 Assembly elections. A high-level meeting was held on June 19 to review election readiness in the Magadh Division. The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena and included key officials like the Director General of Police Vinay Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, and district-level officers from Gaya, Arwal, Nawada, Aurangabad, and Jehanabad.
The Chief Secretary instructed all officials to work in “mission mode” ahead of the Election Commission’s visit to the state. He said that any reports of poll boycott must be taken seriously and handled with care. District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police gave presentations on their election work so far and were asked to speed up the pace.
Chief Electoral Officer Gunjiyal gave several instructions, such as setting up one polling booth for every 1,200 voters and finishing data entry tasks on time. He also asked officers to identify remote areas with weak communication, make transport arrangements, and ensure all polling booths have basic facilities. Special focus was placed on removing illegal weapons and working closely with the forest and border departments.
The meeting also addressed law and order issues. Additional Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar Chaudhary stressed the need for monthly prison checks, arms inspections, and keeping a watch on social media to stop fake news. DGP Vinay Kumar instructed officers to clear all pending warrants and quickly investigate election-related cases. The Chief Secretary closed the meeting by asking all districts to take strong steps to ensure peaceful, fair, and well-organised elections. Similar reviews will be held in other divisions across Bihar in the coming weeks.
