Patna: The road under construction between Patna Ghat and Patna Sahib railway station is expected to be completed by March 2026, Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav confirmed on Thursday during a site inspection.

The project, with a sanctioned cost of Rs. 56 crore, will significantly improve connectivity in the region. Once completed, the 1.5-kilometre stretch will connect the JP Ganga Pathway in the north to National Highway 30 in the south, via Patna Sahib station. The development aims to streamline vehicular movement and reduce congestion in the city by providing an alternative route for traffic, especially for vehicles from Digha heading towards NH-30.

Yadav said the construction is being undertaken after the removal of a railway track that once linked Patna Ghat and Patna Sahib stations. The road is being built following a land exchange agreement between the Bihar state government and the Ministry of Railways. As part of the deal, 18.59 acres of railway land are being swapped for 4.8 acres of government land located at Harding Park.

The new route is expected to facilitate smoother transportation of goods to commercial markets such as Marufganj and Mansoorganj, thereby boosting local trade in Patna City.
