Patna: Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly and a key figure in the Mahagathbandhan, sidestepped a direct answer on Sunday when questioned about the alliance’s chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
During a media interaction in Patna on June 22, Yadav appeared momentarily unsettled when asked if he would be the face of the alliance. After a brief pause of a few seconds, he responded, “Everything is already decided. It will be shared at the right time as per our strategy.”
Despite the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) projecting Tejashwi as its preferred choice, the Congress — a major ally in the Mahagathbandhan — has yet to formally endorse his candidature. Tejashwi, however, dismissed any suggestions of discord within the alliance. “The relationship between Congress and RJD is the oldest in Bihar politics. People keep trying to break it, but we know where we stand. Everything is well within the alliance,” he said.
He also took a swipe at the ruling NDA, suggesting fractures within its structure. “While people talk about unity in the INDIA bloc, look at the NDA — Jitan Ram Manjhi, Chirag Paswan, and Upendra Kushwaha are all saying different things. There is no coherence there,” he remarked.
