Wedding Firings and Gun Photos May Lead to License Cancellation in Bihar

Bihar Police has started a large action to cancel arms licences of those misusing weapons or involved in criminal activity.

Patna: The Bihar government has launched a major campaign to cancel gun licences of people who misuse their weapons. This is being called the biggest action on arms licences so far. If someone has fired a gun at a wedding, shared photos with weapons on social media, or has any criminal case registered against them, their licence could now be taken away.

The police headquarters has asked all district officers to review the records of all arms licence holders. If anyone is found involved in black marketing, gang activities, illegal firing, or showing off weapons, their licence will be cancelled immediately. This move comes just before elections, as the police fear that weapons could be misused during this time.

Officials say more than 17,000 illegal bullets are caught every year in Bihar. Many of these come from licensed shops. According to national data, Bihar has the highest rate of violent crime in the country. To control this, police are making new rules for gun owners. Everyone must now update their weapon details on the NDAL-ALIS online portal.

From now on, people can only buy 50 bullets a year—down from the earlier limit of 200. Every bullet must be recorded, and empty shells must be submitted with a certificate of use. A committee will check licences every three months to decide which ones should be cancelled. This action is aimed at keeping the use of weapons safe and legal across the state.
