Patna: A brief but intense encounter unfolded between the Special Task Force (STF) and armed suspects on Marine Drive in Patna, after police received intelligence about the presence of individuals involved in a recent murder.
The incident occurred in the Gandhi Maidan police station area when STF personnel intercepted two men fleeing on a scooty. According to officials, the accused opened fire upon seeing the approaching force. The STF retaliated, injuring one of the suspects, who was later identified as Mohammad Raja. He is also the prime accused in the April 4 murder of a youth named Shahnawaz in the Sultanganj police station area.
Raja, who was shot in the leg during the exchange, was arrested alongside another man. Police recovered a pistol from the scene. The scooty used by the suspects carried a misleading press sticker.
The April murder case, in which Raja is accused, involved a targeted shooting on Ganga Path. Shahnawaz, who was on his way to court with his friend Mohammad Kaif, was chased by two assailants on a motorbike and shot in the head. He later succumbed to his injuries at Patna Medical College Hospital.
In Friday’s operation, forensic teams also recovered three bullet shells from the location of the recent shootout.
