Bhagalpur: A farmer was found dead in Bhagalpur’s Rampur Louganay village, allegedly murdered in a dispute over 4 decimals of land. The body of Mohammad Alam, 60, was discovered late on Monday night under a tree in a field, half a kilometre from his home. A noose was found around his neck and there was a severe head injury, suggesting a brutal assault.
According to his son, Alam had gone to graze cattle around 4 pm and did not return home. A search began in the evening, and villagers later discovered his body in the field. A month earlier, Alam had reportedly been threatened by a group of men from his own village and neighbouring Nathnagar, who were allegedly trying to encroach on the land.
The dispute had escalated when Alam objected to them fencing the land. He was previously beaten in his own home and had lodged a complaint at the local police station. The family has accused several individuals — identified as Sivli, Sarwar, Farooq, Haider and their associates — of being involved in the murder.
Senior police officials, including City SP Shubhank Mishra and DSP Chandrabhushan, visited the scene along with an FSL team. The police have confirmed that the killing appears to be linked to the land dispute, and investigations are ongoing based on the family’s statements. Authorities have assured that arrests will be made soon.
