Patna: As political activity gains momentum in Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections, Communist Party of India (CPI) national general secretary D Raja met Leader of Opposition and Mahagathbandhan coordination committee convener Tejashwi Prasad Yadav in Patna on Wednesday. The meeting is being seen as part of the ongoing negotiations over seat-sharing within the Grand Alliance.
CPI leaders including Bihar state secretary Ramnaresh Pandey and secretariat members Sanjay Kumar, Omprakash Narayan, and Awadhesh Kumar Rai were also present during the meeting. According to a statement released by the CPI, the discussion centred on the current political climate in the country and preparations for the upcoming state elections.
D Raja later shared photographs of the meeting on X, stating that “the current political situation of the country and Bihar Assembly elections were discussed in detail with Tejashwi Yadav.”

While neither party has officially confirmed details, media reports suggest that D Raja has sought over 24 seats for the CPI in the upcoming polls. Sources also indicate that a list of preferred constituencies has been handed over to Tejashwi Yadav.
In response, the RJD leader is learnt to have assured the CPI delegation that the matter of respectable seat distribution among all alliance constituents will be discussed in an upcoming coordination committee meeting of the Mahagathbandhan.
The Grand Alliance, which includes the RJD, CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML), Congress, and other parties, is yet to finalise its seat-sharing formula. With the polls drawing closer, meetings such as this underline the growing urgency to present a united front against the ruling JD(U)-BJP combine.
