Supaul: A shocking incident took place in Supaul district of Bihar on Friday when 35 children fell sick after eating their mid-day meal at Raniganj Primary School in Basantpur block. The children were served rice with gram-potato curry around 2 pm. Soon after eating, many children started complaining of stomach pain, vomiting, and restlessness.
The situation became serious as more children began feeling unwell, creating panic in the school. The family members of the children were informed immediately, and they rushed to the school in fear. Police station in-charge Deepak Kumar reached the school with his team and helped in taking the sick children to Birpur hospital. Local villagers also helped by arranging private vehicles and ambulances.
Dr Pankaj Kumar at Birpur hospital said it was a case of food poisoning. He said doctors are treating all the children and most of them are now stable, but they will remain under observation for safety. Parents and local people raised questions about the quality of food given under the mid-day meal scheme.
Villagers said the food served was of poor quality and not as per the government menu. They blamed the school management and weak monitoring by the administration for risking children’s health. After the incident, Birpur Sub-Divisional Magistrate Neeraj Kumar visited the hospital to check on the children and has ordered an inquiry into the matter. He assured strict action will be taken against those responsible.
