Patna: In a troubling spate of attacks on law enforcement, Patna witnessed its third attempted vehicular assault on police officers in just 20 days. The latest incident occurred on Monday in the Gandhi Maidan area, where two men allegedly tried to run over traffic personnel during a routine vehicle check.
According to police, the incident took place near the CDA building. When officers signalled a black Hyundai Creta to stop, the driver reportedly accelerated and attempted to mow them down. The officers narrowly escaped injury by jumping out of harm’s way.
An alert was immediately issued across local police stations via wireless communication. Within half an hour, the vehicle was intercepted and seized. The occupants identified as Mukul Kumar Sharma from Masaurhi and Danendra Samdarshi from Shastri Nagar, were arrested and handed over to Gandhi Maidan police. A case has been registered against them and the car has been impounded.
This marks the third such incident in Patna in less than a month. Earlier, on Atal Path, a speeding Scorpio mowed down three officers, resulting in the death of a female constable during treatment. In a separate case in the Gardanibagh area, a Thar SUV attempted to ram police at Chitkohra Golambar after ignoring a stop signal. CCTV footage of the latter incident went viral on social media. In both previous cases, the accused were apprehended and remain in custody.
