Gopalganj: In a shocking incident in Gopalganj district, three people were injured after being attacked with an axe and sharp weapons over a road dispute. The incident took place in Savanhi Patti village under Shripur police station area. According to police, the injured include Waseem Akhtar, his mother, and his wife. All three were first taken to the community health centre in Phulwaria for treatment, but doctors later referred them to a bigger hospital due to serious injuries.
Waseem Akhtar has filed a police complaint accusing his neighbours, Ibrahim Mian and his wife Fatima Khatoon, of attacking them. He said there is government land in front of his house which villagers use as a path. However, the accused couple started blocking the road by placing bricks on it. When Waseem’s mother and wife stopped them, they were abused and attacked with sharp weapons.
When Waseem reached home after hearing about the attack, he was attacked with an axe on his head, injuring his left eye badly. Nearby people rushed him to the hospital in a critical condition. Police said the matter appears to be a land dispute.
Shripur police station in-charge Neha Kumari confirmed that an FIR has been registered based on Waseem’s complaint and the matter is being investigated. She said strict action will be taken against those found guilty to prevent such violence in the village in future.
