Patna: Farmers across Bihar have responded with overwhelming enthusiasm to the state government’s new Sugarcane Mechanisation Scheme 2025–26, with over 900 applications submitted on the very first day of the drive.
The scheme launched by the Sugarcane Industry Department of the Bihar government, aims to modernise sugarcane farming through the use of agricultural machinery—reducing costs, improving productivity, and increasing sugar recovery. The government has allocated Rs 10 crore for the initiative.
On Tuesday, awareness and assistance camps were held at all operational sugar mills in the state. Officers helped farmers navigate the online application process and offered technical support. The department reported a strong turnout, suggesting growing trust and awareness among sugarcane cultivators.
Under the scheme, farmers can apply for subsidies on up to three machines from a list of 33 types, ranging from field preparation tools to harvesting equipment. Applications can be submitted via two government portals: sugarcanemech.bihar.gov.in and ccs.bihar.gov.in. Selected applicants will be issued acceptance letters via an online lottery. They will then have 14 days to purchase the machinery from empanelled vendors, paying only the remaining amount after the subsidy.
Among the sugar mills, Hasanpur recorded the highest number of applications at 160, followed by Majhaulia (144), Sugauli (140), Sidhavaliya (139) and Vishnu (103).
