Banka: At least a dozen people were injured, two critically, after a high-speed collision between a passenger bus and a truck near Bausi block on the Hasdiha–Bhagalpur main road in Bihar’s Banka district in morning.
The crash occurred around 9am when the Rajlaxmi passenger bus, travelling from Hasdiha, was hit head-on by a truck coming from Bhagalpur. The impact of the collision left the front of the bus mangled, while the truck sustained relatively minor damage.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck veered towards the bus just a short distance from the Bausi block turn, ramming directly into it and injuring several passengers. Local police officers Vinay Kant and Gorakhnath from Bausi police station arrived promptly and, with the help of residents, transported the injured to the Bausi Referral Hospital.
Two victims – the bus driver, Shambhu Singh, and another passenger, Prem Kumar of Shyampur – were later referred to Bhagalpur Medical College Hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
Among the injured were:
- Ganesh Kumar, 4, and his aunt Asha Devi from Dighi, Jharkhand
- Rita Devi, 22, also from Dighi
- Kailash Pandit, 40, from Leeladah, Jharkhand
- Doli Devi, 30, from Jasidih, Deoghar
- Nisha Kumari, 25, a teacher from Bhurburi, Bausi
- Khushboo, 32, a teacher at Batsar High School, Jasidih
- Tulsi Ram, 38, from Bampas Town, Deoghar
- Dinesh Prasad Sharma, 66, from Dalia
- Binod Kumar Yadav, 47, from Titriya
- Prem Kumar, 35, from Shyampur
The local administration’s swift action is being credited with preventing further casualties. Police have seized both vehicles involved in the crash and launched an investigation into the incident.
