Darbhanga: Video of Sleeping Head Master in Classroom Sparks Outrage, Probe Ordered

Darbhanga: A video showing the head master of a government school in Darbhanga sleeping on a bench inside a classroom while students were present has triggered public outrage and demands for disciplinary action. The incident reportedly took place at Upkramit Madhya Vidyalaya Shivaisinghpur, Majhauliya around four days ago, but the video surfaced on social media on Sunday.
The footage was captured by a local youth, Alok Chaurasia, who claims he had been hearing complaints from students and parents for several days about the head master regularly sleeping during school hours.
“Children Don’t Study, They Just Roam Around”
“I had been hearing that the head master sleeps during school time and that the children don’t study and just wander around,” said Alok. “So, I went to the school and looked through the classroom window. I saw the head master asleep on the bench while students were in the class. I recorded the video to expose the truth.”
However, since releasing the video, Alok alleges he has faced backlash from school staff. “All the teachers are now targeting me. Wherever they see me, they hurl abuses. They are falsely accusing me of misbehaving or entering the school for the wrong reasons,” he said.
Officials Respond, Probe Initiated
Reacting to the viral video, Sant Kumar, the in-charge Block Education Officer (BEO), said a probe would be conducted.
“If the head master was indeed sleeping during class hours, it is a serious violation of professional conduct. I will investigate the matter, and if the video is found to be authentic, departmental action will follow,” he stated.
Efforts to contact the head master for his response were unsuccessful, as his mobile phone remained switched off.
Public Demands Accountability
The video has sparked a strong reaction from the local community, with many demanding strict action against negligent school staff to ensure students receive proper education.
“How can students learn if the head master himself sets such an example?” questioned a local resident.
The matter has once again brought the spotlight on the condition of rural government schools in Bihar, where complaints of teacher absenteeism and negligence are not uncommon.
