
Gayaji: Three people lost their lives and one person was badly burnt in two separate lightning strikes in Gayaji district, Bihar, on Sunday. The first incident happened near Suryamandal village under Barachatti police station. Vikesh Kumar and Ankit Kumar from Jhaj village were riding a bike with Vakil Manjhi when lightning struck. Vikesh and Ankit died on the spot while Vakil, who is Vikesh’s brother-in-law, was badly injured. He was first taken to Barachatti Hospital and later shifted to Magadh Medical College for better treatment.
In another incident, 60-year-old Rooplal Yadav died when lightning struck him in Talbal Bigha village under Atari police station. The deaths left the villages in deep shock. Family members were seen crying outside the hospital after hearing the tragic news.
The weather turned bad on Sunday evening with strong winds and light rain. Big trees fell in many parts of Gayaji city. One tree fell on Police Line Road and another near the ISKCON temple, blocking traffic. Police managed to clear the road near the temple but the other road was blocked till late evening. Power supply was also badly hit and many areas had no electricity for nearly two hours.
Earlier in the day, Gayaji faced its hottest day this July. People struggled in the heat until the evening storm brought some relief. Weather experts say there is no forecast of heavy rain in the next day but light rain may happen in some parts of the district.
