Patna: The unrelenting flow of frigid westerly and north-western air in the lower level of atmosphere continues to cast a wintry pall over most parts of the state.
The maximum temperature at all but one place, Katihar, remained lower than 20 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The Patna Meteorological Centre issued a red-colored warning for severe cold day conditions at a few places in the state, encompassing the north-west, north-central, south-west, and south-central regions on Thursday. A yellow-colored alert for cold days will remain in effect until January 28.
Since January 12, a persistent cold day and extreme cold day scenario has gripped the region, with today’s numerical analysis indicating the emergence of two fresh western disturbances—one slated for January 25 and another on January 27.
Meteorological experts predict that these disturbances are likely to impact the Himalayan region, prolonging the prevailing extreme cold day and cold day conditions until January 29. Additionally, a forecast for the next five days signals the onset of dense fog in select areas of the state during this period.
In light of this anticipated weather pattern, authorities from the Patna Meteorological Center have issued advisory counsel to the general public, with a special emphasis on safeguarding vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. Citizens are urged to take precautionary measures, including wearing warm clothing and consuming hot beverages to combat the biting cold.
Motorists have been reminded to adhere to government-prescribed traffic rules during episodes of dense fog for enhanced safety. Patna Meteorological Center has urged residents to stay updated by closely monitoring bulletins for any emerging weather developments.
