Nalanda: Two drivers died on the spot after a head-on collision between a truck loaded with mangoes and a gas tanker on the national highway near Teeni village in Bihar’s Nalanda district on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Uday Ram, a resident of Dharmapur village in Bhojpur district, and Shiv Balak Yadav, from Shahpur village in Nalanda. Both were driving the respective vehicles. Two co-drivers, Vinod Ram from Madhubani and Sunil Kumar from Bhagan Bigha village in Nalanda, sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment.
According to family members, Shiv Balak was returning from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh to a mango market while the gas tanker was travelling from Bihar Sharif to Patna. The accident occurred on the four-lane highway near Teeni village, with preliminary suspicion that one of the drivers may have dozed off at the wheel.
Police from Chandi police station reached the scene shortly after the crash. Both bodies were sent for post-mortem examination at Sadar Hospital in Bihar Sharif and later handed over to their families. An investigation into the accident has been initiated, and statements from people present at the site are being recorded.
The collision was so severe that both vehicles were extensively damaged, leading to traffic disruption on the highway for several hours.
