Patna: The Bihar Assembly was adjourned just 21 minutes after it started on Tuesday due to loud protests by opposition members. On the second day of the monsoon session, MLAs from the opposition came dressed in black clothes to show their anger against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government. As soon as the House proceedings began, they gathered near the Speaker’s chair, shouted slogans, and held posters demanding answers on various issues.
Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav tried to calm them down many times, asking them to let the House work, especially as questions related to the education department were to be discussed. But the opposition members kept shouting. Frustrated, the Speaker told them that they were only making noise and not raising real issues of the people. Seeing no end to the chaos, he adjourned the House till 2 pm.
Before the Assembly started, the opposition had already begun protesting at the entrance. Wearing black clothes and holding posters, they sat on the stairs and called the Nitish government “anti-people”. When Speaker Yadav arrived, they continued their protest, blocking his way into the House for some time.
Earlier on Monday, similar protests were seen when the opposition accused the government of manipulating the voter list. This monsoon session is likely to be the last before the next Bihar elections and will continue till July 25. Many important bills and budget discussions are planned for the session, but protests like these may continue to disrupt its work.
