Patna: Bihar Congress has taken a strategic move by sending 16 out of its 19 MLAs to Hyderabad via a chartered plane. These MLAs, who initially arrived in Delhi on Saturday to attend a party meeting, continued their journey to Hyderabad.
Accompanied by former Congress state president Madan Mohan Jha, the MLAs touched down at the RGI Airport in Hyderabad through a chartered plane.
While addressing the media outside the airport, Bihar Congress president Akhilesh Singh explained that the purpose of the visit was to meet the Chief Minister.
The decision to move the MLAs comes ahead of the NDA government in Bihar proving its majority in the upcoming session starting on February 12. The Congress MLAs are expected to return when the budget session of the Bihar Assembly commences.
Bihar Congress currently holds 19 MLAs, with 12 being staunch supporters of the party. In the event of defection, a minimum of 13 MLAs is required to maintain the legislative strength. With Lok Sabha elections on the horizon, the NDA alliance might entice Congress MLAs with opportunities to contest and potential ministerial positions.
RJD leader and former Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has hinted at political turbulence in Bihar, stating that the game will begin. Meanwhile, HAM (S) patron and former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, has demanded an additional ministerial post, adding uncertainty to the political landscape. The NDA is closely monitoring the dynamics within the grand alliance parties as Lok Sabha elections draw near.
