Patna: Tejashwi Yadav has sharply criticised the Bihar government’s decision to implement a domicile policy in teacher recruitment, calling it a rushed attempt to imitate opposition proposals ahead of the 2025 state elections.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently announced that the domicile requirement will be applied from TRE-4 and TRE-5 teacher recruitment exams. Responding to this, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav said the decision was a result of the government’s fear of the growing influence of the opposition. “A tired and directionless government of 20 years is now copying our announcements, schemes, and demands,” Tejashwi said on Monday in Patna.
He described the ruling NDA as “ideologically bankrupt” and mocked it for rejecting the domicile policy earlier, only to now embrace it under electoral pressure. “They used to boast in the Assembly that they would never implement the domicile policy. Now they are copying it, like they’ve copied our other schemes,” he said in a post on social media.
Tejashwi pointed to several other initiatives he claims the government has mirrored, including proposals for social security pensions, free electricity units, government jobs, and increased honorariums for various grassroots workers like ASHA, Mamta workers, and cooks. He also highlighted demands for the formation of a Youth Commission and the promise of one crore jobs.
“The people of Bihar are watching a government that failed to act for two decades now dancing to the tune of the opposition,” he added, challenging the Chief Minister to explain how it feels to imitate the very policies his administration once dismissed.
