Patna: Pratyaya Amrit, a 1991 batch IAS officer, officially took over as Bihar’s new chief secretary late on Sunday evening. In a gesture of continuity and respect, outgoing chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena himself seated him in the chair, extending best wishes in the presence of senior officials and family members.
Until now, Amrit was serving as development commissioner and additional chief secretary of the health department. His predecessor, Meena, a 1989 batch officer, was given a warm farewell earlier in the day at the chief secretariat auditorium.
The farewell ceremony featured a biographical video on Meena, highlighting his journey from a modest background in Rajasthan’s Karauli district to the state’s top bureaucratic post. Known for his honesty and diligence, he was honoured with three national awards during his career.
Senior officials including DGP Vinay Kumar and IAS officers Harjot Kaur Bamrah, Mihir Kumar Singh, N Vijayalakshmi, Bandana Preyashi, Lokesh Kumar Singh and H Srinivas recalled Meena’s work ethic and personal integrity. Emotional moments marked the event as Meena and his wife, Barfi Meena, were honoured with commemorative symbols.
Also present were development commissioner S Siddharth, Pratyaya Amrit’s wife Ratna Amrit, and other senior bureaucrats, while divisional commissioners and district magistrates joined via video conferencing.
