Patna: Patna is set to welcome a new cable suspension bridge modelled on Rishikesh’s iconic Lakshman Jhula, promising safer and more convenient access for devotees performing pind-dan rituals.
The bridge, constructed parallel to the railway over the Punpun river near the historic pind-dan site, is nearing completion and is expected to be inaugurated shortly, according to Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin.
“The work has almost been completed. The bridge will be inaugurated soon,” Nabin said, highlighting the state government’s efforts to improve infrastructure for pilgrims.
The state cabinet had sanctioned a revised estimate of Rs 82.99 crore for the project on August 13. Stretching 320 metres in length with a width of 11.5 metres, the bridge includes 115-metre approach roads on both sides and will accommodate pedestrians as well as light vehicles.
Currently, devotees either navigate a circuitous route or walk along the railway track to reach the ritual site. The new bridge is expected to reduce congestion on the riverbank and distribute visitors more evenly, making the journey safer and more efficient.
Beyond its practical benefits, the bridge is expected to emerge as a local landmark, boosting tourism and supporting nearby businesses, including hotels and shops. Officials anticipate it will draw not only pilgrims but also photographers and tourists, enhancing Patna’s appeal as a cultural and spiritual destination.
